Fight Forecast is a recurring series at StrikeScoreMMA.com that provides a stats based preview of upcoming events. Since striking stats are not available outside the UFC, we need to get a bit creative. The following uses Fight Matrix rankings, peak rank, Tapology user votes, and Rankings Momentum.
In this case, the period used for Rankings Momentum was 10/1/2014 to 7/1/2016. Fighters must have been ranked in at least four quarters during the period to be included. Tapology scores are as of Oct. 14 at 10:45 a.m. ET.
As you can see from the rankings, Combate Americas still has a ways to go in terms of talent. However, the promotion puts on exciting shows and has above average production values. The event airs live on Friday on UFC Fight Pass.
Both John Castañeda and Gustavo Lopez are undefeated in Combate Americas. Castañeda joined the promotion in 2015 after defeating veteran Joe Pearson. He has since gone 4-0. Lopez defeated Sean Cantor at Bellator’s Monster Energy Cup event before going 3-0 in La Jaula. The winner will become the first Combate Americas world bantamweight champion.
Matt Hamill has lost three-straight fights and five of his last six, and his rankings has suffered as you might expect (see below). With that being said, he should be able to wrestle his way to a decision over Julian Marquez who has never been ranked by Fight Matrix.
