Previewing Oklahoma State vs. Missouri with Wrestler's Pythagorean Expectation

This Friday top five wrestling teams Oklahoma State and Missouri face off in a dual meet that is about as big as they come. The Tigers will put their 37 dual winning streak on the line against a Cowboys team that is trotting out a new look lineup after some mid-season changes. The match can be seen live on depending on how you feel about paywalls.

The following is a breakdown of the expected matches using Wrestler's Pythagorean Expectation (WPE). You can find a primer on the statistic here. StrikeScoreMMA previously used the measure to predict the finals of the Midlands tournament, and it correctly predicted the winner in nine of ten bouts. For the following table, scores from all matches and tournaments up to this point were used.

For the most part, the WPE stick pretty close to the rankings favorite. However, there are some exceptions.

Despite being currently unranked, WPE favors Gary Wayne Harding over Zach Synon. With that being said, that results can hardly be considered an upset if you remember that an unranked Harding beat Synon 4-2 in last year's match.

WPE predicts that Blaise Butler will defeat Kyle Crutchmer. The result seems unlikely considering Crutchmer defeated Butler in last year's NCAA tournament.
